In the beginning the wind carried the smoke across the desert into the city of Albuquerque, where I currently reside. For two weeks smoke hung over the city shrouding the horizon and subtly gesturing towards an imminent doom. Perhaps it was this gesture or the surreal change in our static environment but we drew a little closer to each other. For a moment we could forget the fears that always betray our hearts. One day the wind changed it's direction and the sky was suddenly bright and clear again. Though the fires grew in number and intensity, their reality no longer choked our lungs. As quickly as the smoke cleared our vision we returned to the former callous patterns." JA

LISTEN / DOWNLOAD

&lt;p&gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;a href="http://idiosyncratics.bandcamp.com/album/the-smoke-filled-our-hearts-and-blinded-our-eyes-beneath-the-burning-orange-moon"&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;The Smoke Filled Our Hearts And Blinded Our Eyes Beneath The Burning Orange Moon by Luperci&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;

ABOUT LUPERCI

Luperci is the music/aural project of New Mexico based artist Joseph Angelo. Born in the empty wilderness of the New Mexico desert, Luperci has performed and recorded trance inducing drone music since the winter of 2007. The most recent release being 'Jahator' from the Sonic Meditations label. To say this release is epic would just scratch the surface, the spectrum Luperci explores through the chosen instrumentation is very vast, taking the sitar and forging between light eastern-influenced ambiance to blown out noise and back, easing the listener's mood by shifting textures with melodic, yet doomed-out compositions. A brooding journey sure to lift you into another world free of society, creating a full body experience through vibrational sound. Joseph Angelo merges his love of classical north Indian ragas, industrial noise soundscapes, 60's psychedelic rock, doom and black metal with an interest in both altered and meditative states to create the basis and direction of Luperci. The strange magic of the sitar has become the core of his minimal compositions, sometimes embellished with synthesizer, field recordings, percussion, tanpura, and voice. Each element is electronically treated, manipulated, layered, and designed to provide the listener access to an introspective or trance-like space. Each piece of music is intuitively arranged with a focused intention. Song structures are present, but left open and fluid enough for chaos to take hold in live performances. Notable Luperci performances have taken place at the Minima per Maxima Festival at L'an Vert gallery in Liege, Belgium, Salon Bruit in Berlin, Germany, the Spectre Series at the University of New Mexico Arts Lab, a live radio performance on the 'No Other Radio Network' show in Berkley, California and Basement Films Audio/Visual Festival 6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Luperci is currently booking tour dates for September and October 2011 in Europe and the UK. />

"Hey Phil, let me start out by saying it's been a pleasure to watch and hear your development over the past few years and also happy to think on times we shared just drinking coffee and chatting at Randaxhe. In any case, this backgrounds what might come off as a strange statement concerning your cd: namely, my impression of the first track was that "something is missing"--i even wondered if my computer loaded one of my own unfinished tracks instead of yours!--but upon further reflection and while listening to the cd it made perfect sense that "something is missing", something must be missing, there must be an essential and noticeable absence in order for the "ghosts" to appear, to summon them, lay down a carpet for their arrival into the work of art.

Track one provides this essential absence and question for me and so the segueway into track 2 also provides the further sense of invocation to the ghosts by summoning up a brief hymn ala aphex's ambient music, compelling in itself but more like a stepping stone into the temple and afterwards track 3 seems like the first room of this temple, like an episode from a lost silent film shot onto the screen of one's own better and wider collective version of the unconscious--mysterious, soft footsteps and crumbling bird song, invisble fields, waking slowly into a peaceful summer morning slightly sweaty. Track 4 is most reminiscent of Muslimgauze and to my ears much better than all the techno-slick neo-Gauze remixes that have become viral on the internet; your track shows you to be a real lover of the raunchy lo-fi Gauze-celebre. Track 5 contiinuing on in a similar vein, minus the beats, evokes the feeling of being lost in space or on a blind helicopter ride over the desert, the tinkling of cymbals, the shards of the rotar blades in a hypnagogic half-sleep that leads to track 6's seeming transitional wave-swell, a gentle sandstorm of sorts, which goes away and then boomerangs back into another dimension of misty swamps nearing Mordor. I didn't know where I was anymore, there was nothing that I could be sure about next really. So I was suprised by track 7--or what i think of as the 7th "moment"--because, to be quite honest, I didn't look at the track changes, I sat in an arm-chair writing about what I heard--so this 7th track or movement seemed to me like someone in a club who approaching the threshold to the chill-out lounge suddenly decides to turn away and step instead outside for some fresh air. The 8th moment seems to me like the best of Biosphere-style ambience, some half-way house or chamber between a trip into an overgrown forest wherein one spies Diana at her bath and then tries to tiptoe quietly away and the the basement of a Manhattan high-rise's boiler room where some kid is booming a bass drum in a secret private ritual. Track 9 then seems to me then the perfect place for us to meet those alien Africanish children we wish we could have grown up with and thereby rest at home with our eldest earthly ancestors. Track 10 is another Gauze-like drum ritual but this time some drunken urban Portuguese lost in the back alleys of Sao Paolo on a lark spirit juju stumble upon the open rear-exit of a cinema oozing from which we hear a Michael Nyman soundtrack. They keep chanting as the drummers sneak-off the scene for their own arcane reasons and the film credits roll like rain drifting down the glass of broken down train in a dissolving railyard. Track 10 or movement 10: A spectral shimmer as some religious folks intone syllables inside their Godhead and an LP record (the end of linear time) skips within a groove that won't willingly terminate. Slowly a large hovercraft approaches the station, stops and let's on some posse of violinists, the doors close and the hovercraft boots up again on it's journey, then stops again without explaination--as trains often do in Poland--starts moving again and I realize the violinists have been metamorphosed into mosquitos and the hovercraft glides by Armenian campfires surrounded by vagabond yodlers which all comes as a smiling prelude to track 11: the Gypsy James Bond thriller wherein a Bartok quartet seems to play from behind a muffled door in a posh concert hall while you are taking a call on your cell-phone from Tajik-Russian ancestors who insist on singing that song you can't remember telling them you loved . But you must have loved it and said so. And so there it is. Uncle Zmevtin passes the phone around to everyone and you hear each old leathery voice recount the lines of the a story too convoluted to repeat...and then, and then...I don't quite remember what happens next in this dream. I guess it just ends somehow, like dreams do. And you face the day with the ghosts.

and so, there you have my rather immediate reflections on your very fine cd. congratulations!" JG

pre-order HERE

VA- Idioscapes: full length download for free

<iframe allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="100" src="http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/v=2/album=3189485988/size=venti/bgcol=000000/linkcol=995e06/" style="display: block; In this alternative myth, the two founders emerged from the waters there, carrying the body of the original ancestor transformed into stone (huaca, meaning "sacred"). In 2003, an international team of archaeologists discovered in Lake Titicaca a huge underwater structure, later identified as a stone temple, perhaps built by the same Incas responsible for Macchu Piccu. The underwater temple seems to date to between 1,000 to 1,500 years ago but the divers reported there was not enough evidence to suggest a city, even though they followed what they said was a "long road" to get to the temple. There is growing controversy over the issue.

Satellite photography studied by Amelia Carolina Sparavigna from the Politecnico di Torino, revealed many more structures there which bear too many right angles to be considered natural geological formations and which may indeed have once been large agricultural terraces. Other archaeologists working recently in--or rather over--Egypt with infrared satellite photography have detected what they believe might be two or three buried pyramids that were thought lost and perhaps this technology will be trained on not only the submerged structure in Lake Titicaca but on the many other enigmatic underwater megaliths, including that off the coast of Japan's westernmost island of Yonoguni, which may in fact be the oldest structure on the planet, dating beyond the Egyptian pyramids and possibly (controversially) more than 10,000 years, a time when geologists and archaeologists believe there was no such level of civilization capable of building them. The Yonoguni site has been associated with the legend of Utsoro Bune, in which a woman descends from the sky in a ship, carrying a sacred head in a box.

You can undertake your own researches based on these few clues. Whether or not some of these structures are in fact sunken catastrophe cities, post-glacial farming projects or in fact point to older human civilizations that preceded the Great Ice or appear fantastically as evidence of docking points for space-crafts, I am nevertheless intrigued and inspired by these phenomena to imagine the range and skill of intelligent life forms and contemplate them through my music. There is an intimate archetypal relationship between stone, flooding, heights and access to the guidance of the stars and messengers from the stars, as if these elements commanded the measures of form in the arts that are still with us.

My approach is intuitive in Circling Lake Titicaca, partly planned out sequences of sounds with improvisational detours. Materials used in the piece are stones gathered from various places on the Earth, prepared guitar, mini-theremin and laptop running a mixture of Pure Data and Audiomulch patches." JG

LISTEN

DOWNLOAD

MP3
(VBR 227K, compressed as a .zip)

WAV
(full quality, heavy file, compressed as a .zip)

ABOUT JEFF GBUREK

Jeff Gburek is composer, improviser, sound artist, visual artist, poet, working with prepared guitar, unprepared guitars, stones and other objects, phonography, electronics, sampling, digital manipulation. He studied Javanese (Jogja) and Balinese (Ubud) gamelan music and worked for some years as percussionist, strongly influenced by Harry Partch. In NYC he played with Neel Murgai, Daniel Carter, Graham Haynes and did studio work for Joe Claussel and Nithin Sawney. He first lived in Berlin in 2000, playing with Joe Williamson, Michael Vorfeld, Marcelo Aguirre, Annette Krebs, Konrad Bauer, Tobias Vethake and others, thusly setting the tone for his paradoxical poetics of sound, while working on dance/theater with Ephia in Djalma Primordial Science (www.djalma.com).

In New Mexico (2001 -2004), he worked in relative isolation on the physiology of sound, recording three radically experimental CDs released on his own label and with Ephia taught numerous workshops, making two cross country tours, played with Keith Rowe, Kyle Bruckmann, Luperci, Raven Chacon, Bob Bellerue, Tom Carter (Charalambides), Bob Marsh and others, returning to Germany to work with various musicians each year, realeasing his first “official” CD with Nur Nicht Nur in 2003. It was in this time he visited the Tarahumara of Northern Mexico to study their music and religious rituals.

Since 2005, living in Berlin, he has toured widely in Europe, playing with Tetuzi Akiyama, Lucio Capece, Pascal Battus, Yannick Franck, Olivier Pé, Christine Sehnahoiu, Stephane Rives, Guillaume Viltard, Rinus Van Alebeek (and at numerous editions of Das Kleines Field Recordings Festival), Madame P., Olivier DiPlacido and others and was given a residency at STEIM in Amsterdam and presented sound installations in Darmstadt 2006, where he met Helmut Lachenmann. At the request of Noé Cuéllar, he composed a soundtrack for an invisible film which was subsequently released by Yannick Franck’s Idiosyncratics net-label. CD releases with Tetuzi Akiyama, Raven Chacon and his solo cd recorded in 2003 released by Foxy Digitalis followed. Many performances with Djalma Primordial Science took him far afield in this period: festivals in Amsterdam, France (twice in Rodez at Espace Antonin Artaud), Copenhagen, twice at Odin Teatret (Hostelbro) and two appearances at the UNIDRAM in Potsdam.
His CD "red rose for the sinking ship" was released by Triple Bath in 2007 to great praise and "virtuous circles" released by Absurd Records was also warmly received in 2006. Since living in Poznan he has been performing solo and at the Ad Libitem Festival in Warsaw with John Tilbury, Eddie Prevost and Phil Durrant. The cd "remote provinces" was released in 2009 on Aural Terrains and was hailed by Dan Warburton as "one of the year's most satisfying releases." (that you never heard!). The French label N.O.T. released his acoustic guitar cd entitled "Impatience" featuring one collaborative track with Tetuzi Akiyama. Current projects include collaborations with Rafal Iwański, Ayankoko, Denitsa Mineva, and an upcoming CD with Tetuzi Akiyama and the trio "meltwater" (Karolina Ossowska, violin, Joanna Zielecka, flute). He had also been organizing 3 editions of Retrograde in the Dromosphere Festival at Galeria ON in Poznan. This summer he and Karolina Ossowska will lead a group of young musicians to close encounters of the first kind with improvisation, extended techniques and graphic music at the Experyment Festival, 2011 in Zbąszyń, Poland."

LINK

http://www.futurevessel.com/orphansound/

Highly recommended: Aymeric de Tapol - Static Island

New solo album by sound magician Aymeric de Tapol (member of MS30), out now on french label Tsuku Boshi. It results to some guts frequencies and sharped cuts. Their common experience of Western Africa brought them to work on this thematic, with their own vision and cultural codes.

Aymeric de Tapol is an experimental and electro-acoustic composer, who works for contemporary dance pieces, radiophonic creations and as a freelance sound engineer for cinema and documentary films.

Since 1998, he focuses his work on climatic sound takes. The final result is a composition where minimalist soundscapes interact to lead to organic maps, closed to Microsound or to Noise. His works could be described as Travelling Music : the music score for a non-existing movie.

Since 1996 Tzii spreads his magickal corrosive frequencies all over the world through touring from eastern and western europe to Australia, passing by USA, Canada, Japan and Africa, where he played hundreds of shows. Spreading cinematic ambient and raw electronic anger. He's a co-founder and active member of the V-ATAK collective/dvd label, a crew raping with no limits your eyes and ears in multimedias festivals worldwide. As a multi-talented artist he works also for dance companies, living performances, movie soundtracks and any other mediums with sound inside. As a filmmaker he directed the video clip for this track of MS30 with footages he shooted in Ndar (Senegal).

LINKS

http://soundcloud.com/ms30
http://www.tzii.tk
http://a.detapol.free.fr

ORDER

Thanks!

Please send us an email with the name and quantity of the items you want to purchase at order AT idiosyncratics DOT net

We'll send you our bank account number.
